Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a medical condition that encompasses eye diseases that damage the optic nerve, which is responsible for transmitting information from the eye to the brain. This disease can cause vision damage without any symptoms and is therefore considered a silent and progressive disease.
If the optic nerve is damaged and the diagnosis is made late, it can lead to blindness. Glaucoma is one of the main causes of blindness worldwide, and in Portugal, it affects around 100 thousand people.
